UTM codes are used to assist with tracking the performance of content and social media campaigns. Apostle offers a unique way to automatically generate a UTM code based on your business name or Apostle user id.

This means that you can automatically create a unique UTM code per brand ambassador and/or business page name. You can use these identifiers to track the performance of your content on an individual brand ambassador level.

For example, you are creating a post about an open vacancy. If you activate user/page ID tracking you can track how many website visitors (and even conversions) came from a specific brand ambassador or business page share in Google Analytics.

How does it work?

  • Navigate to Create Post and paste a link in the text field.

  • Click the Edit button next to the link to open the link customizer.

  • Select the Add user/page ID as UTM code checkbox.

  • The snippet (utm_apostle=1) is now added to your link. This snippet will automatically add the user ID or business page name of the person sharing the post.

  • [Optional] Finish the UTM code by adding the usual parameters (e.g. Source or Medium)

  • Click Save and the tracking is now added.

Important: Do not make any changes to the snippet. The user/page id will be automatically added after the suggested post was shared by your brand ambassadors.

Identifying user and page ID’s

You can identify the user and page ID’s from the Member overview export. You will need these ID’s in order to analyze your results in Google Analytics.

  • Navigate to Members in the left sidebar.

  • Select the Download member list icon on the right side of the table.

  • Open the Excel spreadsheet and look for the Member ID column.

  • Use the Member ID column in Google Analytics to analyze the performance per user.

If you are using business pages, please follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Members in the left sidebar.

  • Switch to the Business Pages view on the top of the screen.

  • Select the Download page list icon on the right side of the table.

  • Use the Page slug column in Google Analytics to analyze the performance per business page..

Please note: This is an advanced feature for data analysis. We recommend only using this feature if you have sufficient knowledge of UTM codes and Google Analytics.
